Rotorua Primary School decided to replace their old wooden decking situated over an existing concrete slab outside their classrooms along with their timber batten seating in the play areas. Due to high traffic and general wear and tear, the old decking was showing its age and needed replacing.

Carling Architects from Rotorua worked closely with School Principal, Fred Whata, to come up with a suitable sustainable material. Futurewood was chosen as an obvious solution for their upgrade. Colour consideration was important as they were determined to use a colour scheme that suited the surrounds of the school and Futurewood Chocolate was perfect.

The deck was laid on an aluminium frame supplied by Proframe which allowed for a quick installation as the frame arrived as a kitset ready for installation.

Head contractor Shawn Williamson Construction installed the deck and was impressed with the ease of laying the Futurewood system.

All stakeholders are delighted with the finished product. A clean, tidy deck with seating to match ready to give years of service to the children of Rotorua.

Futurewood offered the advantages of a long term cost-effective solution, as well as easy cleaning, little ongoing maintenance such as tightening fasteners, painting or staining. Along with this the school gain the benefits of no splintering or splitting endangering those small bare feet.

Futurewood also carries a 15 year warranty and being 100% recycled is ideal in a school setting where a strong appreciation of the environment is evident.
